For best results, use in the shower once every three days.  For a perfectly clean back it can even be used every day.  Replace blades when their cutting effectiveness decreases.

For most people, a pattern of side to side for the lower back is best.  The lower back can be considered three distinct areas.  The left side, right side, and middle.  Choke up on the pull rope with the hand that is on the same side you are shaving.  Pull the razor side to side in 6 inch strokes, increasing or decreasing height on your back with each stroke.  The razor will cut in both directions. Do this same pattern in the other side.  For the middle of your back, try to flatten your back to reduce the size of the depression along your spine. Imagine pushing your belly button to your back to make this happen.

The upper back can be considered one big area, and is often best handled by shaving up and down.  So grab one handle above your head, and the other at the bottom of your back. Now pull The BackShave up and down across the entire upper back, moving sideways slightly with each stroke until you have covered the entire back.  You may need to switch hands in some cases.

You can also do a few strokes side to side above your shoulder blades to get the very top of your back up to your neck.

If you have hair on your shoulders, you can use the grab handle on The BackShave to shave those easy-to-reach areas.

If this is your first time, you'll likely miss some areas.  But you'll know to get them the next time, and before you know it you can do your whole back with your eyes closed in less than a minute.

Heavy Hair - If you look like this, we recommend using clippers first to get the hair as short as possible.  If The BackShave is your only option, then focus on an area to create a smooth spot, once you have a cleanly shaved spot about the size of a baseball, then you can start working your way outward from it. Be sure to do it under running water, and clean out the razors often.

Estimated time - 20 mins

Moderate Growth - If you have light hair naturally, or you haven't shaved in a while, your back might look like this. This is no problem for The BackShave, just be sure to do it under running water to help keep the razors clean.

Estimated Time - 6 mins

Light Growth - This is what life should look like at all times with a BackShave. A few days growth is nearly invisible, especially in a photo. To maintain this look, use The BackShave every few days in the shower. It will become part of your daily routine.

Estimated Time - 1 min

Tips:

- Don't expect it to work perfectly the first time you try it.  Figuring out how to perfectly shave your back is an acquired skill that will take you 4 or 5 tries to figure out.

- It will struggle on really long hair. This is best used to maintain a clean back, not shave a fury back.  If you have not shaved for a long time, use clippers to get the hair as short as possible before your new life with The BackShave.

- Use it every few days. It works so well, you'll probably use it every day anyway. But every few days will maintain a clean back.  Once you have a routine for your back, it should not take more than a minute.

- Use it in the shower.  Shower water will act as a naturally shaving lubricant, and flush away hair to keep the razors clean.

- Don't use additional lubricants like shaving cream or soap.  The built-in wheels will provide enough lubrication for an easy glide.  They also act as a stabilizer to keep the blades cutting straight.  If you put soap or shaving cream on your back then The BackShave can move sideways and slide around.  This is when nicks and cuts can happen.

- Replace the blades periodically.  Back hair is finer than face hair, so you should be able to get a good 10 uses out of a set of blades.  Maybe much more.  Just use common sense to detect when cutting performance declines and replace the blades then.

Razor Replacement

The replaceable razor cartridges will simply snap onto the articulated blade holder.  The blade holder holds two blades.  They are attached with a friction fit, and a slight mechanical fit.  When they are positioned correctly you will hear a slight "snap" or "click" into place. Removing the blades can be difficult.  We intend to improve this with future designs.  You basically have to apply enough force to pull the razor cartridge off of the blade holder, but not so much force that you break the blade holders.  We recommend that you cover the razor blades in tape, or wear gloves if you fell you might cut yourself on the razors. In the world of replaceable razor cartridges, we have learned one of the biggest issues is that people cut themselves when replacing them.  We hope you take precautions and don't cut yourself.
