I was blessed with a hairy back. For whatever reason, society frowns on hairy backs. Even us neanderthals with hairy backs scoff at our brethren we see in public with their shirts off, showing off those hairy backs. The popular movement continues towards little to no body hair.
I've used every device ever created over the years to make back shaving easier. I've used the specialized shavers on huge handles with big blades, the extension that holds a normal face razor, electric razors on a wand, and waxing. None of it is a very pleasant experience. The only one that works really well is waxing, but it's a very unpleasant ordeal.
Any of the solutions that have an extension or oversized handle require shaving in a mirror. Head twisted back one way, the wand twisted back another way, trying to line up the blade with whatever areas need shaving. It is painful, slow, and still doesn't give a close shave.
The extension handle that uses a normal face razor works good, but it takes forever to guide that little razor around the entire back, while constantly having to re-insert it and orient it properly in the extension handle.
Basically, there is no good, fast, easy, and efficient way to remove back hair off a back.
I have been designing the BackShave Plus in my head for years. The real unique innovation is the opposing ropes/handles to allow the user to locate the razor anywhere on the back easily, without contorting. Next, I had to figure out how to mount some razors to it, then keep them at the perfect height and angle. Finally, how to keep the device gliding in a straight line easily, while allowing it to follow back contours and depressions.
The BackShave Plus was born. It took me a couple of months of trial an error. Around 30 version, and multiple updates of each to continue making refinements along the way. In it's current version it is damn near perfect.
From the very first one I made, I looked at my back after I got out of the shower in disbelief that my back was that clean. 29 versions later and I still look at my back every day in disbelief, that it can be shaved that perfect with less than a minute effort in the shower.
Currently, they are 3D printed. We'll ship them like this for a while until we're sure its ready for mass production.
